QUETTA: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Provincial President Haji Ali Madad Jattak has strongly condemned downsizing in the media industry while underscoring his party’s support to the rights and security of the journalist fraternity and freedom of the press.

He shared this while addressing a welcome ceremony for the newly-elected body of Quetta Press Club (QPC) on Sunday.

“PPP has always played its due role for strengthening democracy and parliament and journalists have been vocal proponents of democracy. We stand shoulder to shoulder with journalists who were martyred in the line of duty while supporting democracy,” Jattak said.

Expressing ire upon the performance of the current provincial government, Jattak said that the government led by Chief Minister Jam Kamal wasn’t competent to run provincial affairs because of a lack of vision.

“We are opposed to nationalist politics in Balochistan because it creates an environment of hatred and fear in the province,” he added.

Members of the newly-elected body, including President Razaur Rehman and General Secretary Zafar Baloch attended the dinner held at Jattak’s residence.

Sharing his views, the QPC president said that the media industry was going through a period of crisis, with journalists facing the same kind of pressures that they did during dictatorships. “We have banned Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry from entering Quetta Press Club due to his actions against the media industry,” he said.
