ANP’s Achakzai plays role in patching up ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan

QUETTA: After three days, the Pakistan and Afghanistan Friendship Gate in Chaman has been reopened for trade activities.

According to details, the Chaman border crossing had been closed on Sunday following a clash between the security forces of both the neighbouring countries over fencing.

On Monday, Pakistan reopened the crossing point only for pedestrians, but kept trade activities suspended. Afghanistan followed suit.

On Tuesday, trade activities resumed at the crossing point.
Awami National Party provincial President Asghar Khan Achakzai played an important role in having the gate reopened. Soon after the clash, Achakzai remained in constant contact with the high-ups of Pakistan as well as Afghanistan.

As soon as the Friendship Gate reopened, trade activities resumed. Afghan Transit Trade, Nato supply along with trucks carrying goods started to enter Pakistan and Afghanistan.

According to security forces, the Friendship Gate remained closed for three days due to tension between the two countries.
