Areas affected included Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Clifton, Saddar, Lyari, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Nazimabad, North Karachi, Malir, Landhi and Korangi among others.

Liaquatabad, Kharadar, Kiamari, Mehmoodabad, Baloch Colony, PECHS, Jamshed Road and Lines Area, as well as, Governor House and CM House also plunged into darkness.

Talking to The Express Tribune, K-Electric Director Sadia Dada said that Extra High Tension (EHT) lines' tripping has caused the power breakdown in the metropolis.

Many areas in Karachi face hours-long electricity breakdown

"Restoration work is already underway," according to K-E official twitter handle. However, a complete restoration would take up to 10 to 12 hours, according to a K-E spokesperson.

It has been learnt that no one is attending complaints at 118 due to large number of calls by customers.

Residents of the port city faced similar problem last week following a power breakdown due to tripping of Extra High Tension lines. The power breakdown initiated late Saturday night and continued through Sunday afternoon.
