‘Strong political will necessary for growth’

'The region can be lifted out of poverty if both countries agree to decide matters through result-oriented parleys'

LAHORE: Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Ruwan Edirisinghe congratulated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on his party’s success in the general elections and expressed hope that his strong political leadership, will lead to economic growth and elimination of poverty in the Saarc region. “It will be the political will, the determination and the bonding of Saarc members that would enable growth, eliminate poverty,” said Edirisinghe.

In his victory speech, the PTI leader expressed interest in improving trade and commercial ties between Pakistan and India, which is a positive sign as it will improve the overall environment in the region. The Saarc chamber official said that the region can be lifted out of poverty if both countries agree to decide matters through result-oriented parleys.
