Motorway police has fined 100,000 vehicles since January 2018

DIG pays respect to martyred patrolling officer Muhammad Idrees

QUETTA: More than 80,638 challans have been cut against 100,000 vehicles since January 2018, the DIG of Balochistan National Highways and Motorway Police says.

“More than 500 officers of the National Highways Police have been performing their duties on the national highway passing through Balochistan,” DIG Abdul Hai Baloch said on Saturday.



He said that the personnel had utilised all their abilities in creating awareness among the people about safe travelling He said that during accidents, the officials provided all-out assistance to the victims of accidents. “Their top priority is to rescue the victims and resume the traffic flow as quickly as possible,” the DIG added.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), annually 27,000 to 30,000 people lose their lives in road accidents. The WHO also terms Pakistan as among the most dangerous countries of the world in terms of road accidents.

The print media claims that three times more people died in road accidents than in terrorist acts in Balochistan since 2000.



DIG Baloch said, “National Highways Police is adopting effective measures to create awareness among the public about road safety measures. We don’t have a modern road system but intend to introduce modern N-70 and N-40 road systems in Balochistan.”

Sharing details about this year’s performance of the National Highways Police, he said, “More than 80,638 challans have been cut and millions of rupees submitted to the national exchequer.”

He applauded the bravery of martyred patrolling officer Muhammad Idrees, who intercepted an explosive-laden vehicle and foiled a major suicide attack on Frontier Corps Help Centre, the DIG said, “Our brave officer sacrificed his precious life while preventing the suicide bomber from reaching the entrance of the help centre.”
