Naseerabad DIG confirms ‘policemen raped woman’

Forms five-member team of senior police officials to investigate incident

QUETTA: Naseerabad Range Deputy Inspector General Police Nazeer Ahmed Kurd has confirmed that a woman was sexually abused in a check post by police officials in the Dera Murad Jamali area.
Speaking at a press conference, DIG Kurd said that the medical report confirmed that the woman was sexually abused.

He said that after the medical report came in, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ghulam Sarwar Gola, his gunman Muhammad Din and driver Nazeer Ahmed had been arrested and suspended.
He said that they were booked under Section 376/200 of the PPC and a five-member team of senior police officials headed by circle police officer or DSP Khawind Bakhsh had been formed for investigating the incident.

He said a police constable posted at a post at Uch power plant was also arrested for interrogation.
DIG Kurd said that the investigation team had recorded the statement of the victim S*, who had been shifted to Dar-ul-Aman Quetta. “Fair and transparent investigation will be conducted in the rape case,” he said.

He revealed that S*, who is a resident of Bhag tehsil of Bolan district, came to Rabi Canal area of Naseerabad district to see her relatives but forgot the address and went to the police post at Uch power plant for help.

The policemen deployed at the post informed the post in charge Gola, who came at the post and took S* with him.
DIG Nazeer Kurd said that he raped her whole night and threw her near a district hospital in an unconscious condition.

After gaining consciousness, she found her relatives and reported the incident at Dera Murad Jamali police station.

He said that all those involved in this inhumane act would not be speared and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, a large number of people of different organisations and civil society took out a protest rally against the incident.

They marched on the main highway and other roads of Dera Murad Jamali and chanted slogans.
Speaking to the protestors, Ishad Mengal, Abdul Salam Bangulzai, Altaf Jattak, Haider Lehri and Yaqoob Lehri strongly condemned the inhumane act against the young woman in which police officials were found involved.

They rejected the investigation team of police and expressed their apprehension that the team may be favouring their colleagues to prove the accused innocent.

They demanded that the investigation should be handed over to the crime branch for fair interrogation.

They said that it was a tribal society and such a shameful incident could not be tolerated and demanded of the chief justice of Pakistan, the COAS and the IGP to take notice of the incident.
