ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) should stop harassing builders and developers because such tactics would discourage investment in real estate and hurt economic growth of the country, said Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sheikh Amir Waheed. In a statement, Waheed said on the pretext of expanding the tax net, the FBR had started issuing notices to the builders and developers seeking details of buyers of shops and flats in their projects. “This is not a wise approach as it is a source of harassment for the business community associated with the real estate sector,” he said. After agriculture, he pointed out, the construction industry was the largest job provider in the country and growth of over 100 ancillary industries was directly linked with expansion of the construction industry.
