Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement while releasing Q4 earnings of 2017 for the company. WhatsApp's $19 billion acquisition in 2014 is seemingly becoming more and more justified.
WhatsApp to stop working on some Blackberry devices
Before being acquired by Facebook in 2014, WhatsApp had 450 million monthly active users and 315 million daily active users. In July, the messaging giant had reached 1.3 billion monthly users with 1 billion daily users.
Last month, WhatsApp also launched a Business app aimed to make it easier for small and medium businesses to connect with customers.
“We launched WhatsApp Business -- a new app designed specifically for small and medium businesses to connect with people they want to reach by making it easier for businesses to respond to customers, separating customer and personal messages, and creating an official presence," according to a blog post.

Facebook's photosharing arm Instagram has also given tough competition to primary competitor Snapchat with 300 million daily active users compared to Snapchat's 178 million as a whole.
