LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday allowed the federal government additional time to file a reply on a petition seeking direction from the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs to provide the Punjab government with complete information on foreigners living in the province.

A deputy attorney general appeared before the court and sought time to file a reply on behalf of the federal government. The judge adjourned the hearing of the petition. Advocate Noshab Khan filed the petition in the backdrop of murder of the Qurtaba Chowk shooting. The petitioner submitted that the scarcity of reliable information about Raymond Davis had caused immense hardship for the public at large. He prayed that the ministries be directed to supply the necessary information to the Punjab home department about foreigners in the province, their duties and functions, their whereabouts, movements and designs. The petitioner further prayed that the Punjab government also be directed to take all necessary measures to safeguard the lives and property of citizens especially from the hands of foreigners.
