Court informed that Khan Muhammad Noohani shot 19 year old for refusing marriage proposal

KARACHI: The police claimed on Friday that the main suspect in the murder of 19-year-old student Tania Khaskeli, Khan Muhammad Noohani, has confessed to having shot dead the girl for refusing his marriage proposal.

This was revealed in a report filed by the police investigation officer before Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh during the hearing of a suo motu case.

The report stated that Khan had been arrested and his physical custody was obtained from the court concerned. During the investigation, both the accused - Khan Muhammad Noohani and Ali Noohani - confessed to their crime in their statements recorded before the police under Section 163 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), it added.

The report stated that the key suspect, Khan Muhammad, admitted in his confessional statement that he had fired shots at Tania when she refused his proposal of marriage.

It also stated that the co-accused, Ali, had also admitted his role as a facilitator in his confessional statement.

The investigation officer informed the court that the identification parade for the accused will soon be conducted by the court concerned, where they will be presented before the eyewitnesses.

The complainant, Ghulam Qadir Khaskheli, the father of the victim, expressed his satisfaction over the investigation.

Therefore, the chief justice disposed of the suo motu case, directing the investigation officer to submit the charge-sheet before the court concerned upon completion of the investigation.

The CJ had taken notice of the media reports regarding protests by the victim's family over non-arrest of the influential accused and had summoned the Hyderabad DIG, investigation officer of the case and others with their reports.

The top provincial judge had ordered the inspector-general of police to withdraw the investigation of the case from the investigation officer and assign the same to a senior honest officer, as the victim's family apprehended the officials were under pressure from the influential accused persons.

He had also directed the Hyderabad DIG and Jamshoro SP to provide protection to the father of the slain matriculation student and her other family members in the wake of threats from the supporters of the primary suspect.

According to her father, Ghulam Qadir, his life as well as the lives of his family members, including school-going girls, was in danger at the hands of the supporters of Khan Muhammad.
