KARACHI:

Two brothers who were kidnapped six days ago were rescued by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) from Hub.

Abdul Uzair and Zubair were kidnapped from Mubarak Village on April 10. “The victims were on their way to a picnic with their family when the kidnappers intercepted their car and took them away,” said AVCC chief SSP Farooq Awan. “The culprits are professional kidnappers.”

They demanded Rs10 million and threatened to kill the two if the family was unable to pay the ransom. The family members said that the culprits refused to negotiate the amount of the ransom.

According to SSP Awan, the AVCC traced the culprits by tracing the phone calls with the help of the CPLC. This information led them to the hideout, which was a small hotel in Hub. Even though the police found the hostages, the kidnappers escaped during the encounter.

SSP Awan said that the kidnappers’ gang is run by Ghafoor Bugti, who has been involved in several cases of kidnapping for ransom.
