PML-N fails to live up to its pro-business image, says PHMA

Body ready to work with new minister for achieving high growth

LAHORE: Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) Chairman Adil Butt, while welcoming newly appointed Commerce and Textile Minister Pervaiz Malik, has assured him that the value-added textile industry is ready to work closely with the government for enhancing exports and reviving the growth momentum.



“It is unfortunate that the ministry continued to run without a head for a long time, which greatly contributed to the decline in exports,” Butt said, decrying that the ruling party had failed to live up to its pro-business image.

He said the absence of a full-time minister resulted in the sector moving directionless with its macro and micro issues not being addressed by the government and policy-makers.

He stressed the importance of nurturing the value-added textile industry in order to “steer the country away from declining exports”. He sought support for the domestic industries in their competition with regional rivals by providing them a level playing field.



The PHMA chairman expressed the hope that the new minister would take measures to revitalise Pakistan’s economy.

“PHMA appreciates the prime minister’s decision of appointing an experienced person on this important post to promote exports,” he said.

“Pervaiz Malik belongs to the business community,” Butt said, adding he, therefore, understood the importance of cooperating and collaborating with the private sector in policy-making and implementation.
