HYDERABAD: The focal person for the provincial polio programme, MNA Azra Afzal Pechuho, has expressed dissatisfaction over the polio drives being carried out in the three districts of Mirpurkhas division. At a meeting in Mirpurkhas on Saturday, Pechuho asked officials to lodge police cases against parents who refuse to let polio workers immunise their children.

The MNA also directed the deputy commissioners of Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar and Umerkot districts to personally monitor the polio campaigns and officials of the Peoples Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) to immediately launch postnatal family planning programmes at all health centres.

Pechuho requested the World Health Organisation's coordinators based in the three districts to monitor the health department's immunisation campaigns including the one against polio. Pechuho said the vaccinators who have been avoiding duty during vaccination campaigns should be identified for departmental action.

Mirpurkhas Division Commissioner Shafique Ahmed Mahesar also underlined that the statistics shared by the health department regarding the polio campaigns need to be revisited.
