Rangers DG announces Rs10m reward to those who help trace the attackers

KARACHI: While the Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal ordered on Tuesday the Karachi police to accelerate actions against criminals and terrorists in the city, the Rangers director-general (DG) announced Rs10 million reward for those who will provide any lead in getting the attackers involved in the series of attacks on the police in Karachi.

The home minister issued directives while chairing a meeting on law and order situation in the city. The meeting was attended by the Karachi AIG, Traffic AIG, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) AIG, East DIG and Malir SSP.

"The terrorists involved in police killings should be arrested immediately while a crackdown against the anti-peace elements should be launched with full force," Siyal ordered. He further directed that the motorcycle squad should accompany the patrolling mobiles for swift action. "Attack on the police on daily basis is an alarming situation and it will not be tolerated at any cost," the home minister said.

Siyal also ordered to conduct phase-wise training and refresher courses for the police. The jawans of the range police, as well as the traffic police and CTD police, should engage in shooting practices and should be equipped with sophisticated weapons, he said, adding that there should be a strong coordination between the traffic police and district police and they all should adopt the standard operating procedure.

A similar meeting was also held at the Rangers Headquarters in Karachi, which was supervised by the Rangers DG Major General Muhammad Saeed and was attended by Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja, Karachi AIG Ghulam Qadir Thebu and other senior officials of the Rangers and police, to review the law and order situation in the city, particularly the situation after the series of attacks on the police.

Strong coordination between the law enforcement agencies was stressed [in the meeting] to counter the terrorism acts, according to a statement issued by the Rangers. In the meeting, the Rangers DG announced Rs10 million reward for those who will help trace the attackers involved in attacks on the police.
