ISLAMABAD:

A court on Friday ordered to stop proceedings in a case against the chief cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz.

During the course of hearing, Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi of Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued stay orders in the case in which Aziz, along with others, was accused of distributing pamphlets outside Lal Masjid in 2007.

Kasi directed Ghulam Mustafa Awan, the sub inspector of Aabpara Police Station to submit his comments by the first week of May.

Earlier this week, Maulana Abdul Aziz had filed an application in the Islamabad High Court requesting the court to quash the case.

Aziz through his lawyers had maintained that he was not nominated in the initial FIR.

The case was registered at Aabpara Police Station in 2007, when some students of Lal Masjid were distributing pamphlets in violation of the section 144.
