ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif appeared before the Panamagate joint investigation (JIT) team to uphold the law and the Constitution, said State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Talking to the media outside the Supreme Court on Thursday, Marriyum said the prime minister and his family had the utmost respect for the judiciary and its verdicts, and were confident of getting justice in the Panamagate case.

She also said that the government had accepted the apex court’s verdict over the issue of Hussain Nawaz's picture leak.

The minister said the Panamagate case was not about corruption or kickbacks, but about the offshore companies, and the opposition was using it for political gains.

She claimed that the JIT had so far been probing the Sharif family’s private business and had found no incriminating evidence to establish that the London flats were purchased through foreign funding or kickbacks.

Earlier, the state minister also faced an unexpected situation when her presser was interrupted midway by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Uzma Kardar for “being too lengthy”.

Uzma attempted to take over the podium in the middle of the presser after she complained of hot weather, and called out the minister for taking too long to finish her media talk.

“We have been standing in the sun for a long time… but we are unable to get our turn to speak [to the media],” Uzma said, telling the minister, “You have been addressing the media for more than an hour now.”

However, Marriyum managed to continue her talk as she took 15 more minutes to complete her press conference.
