Recreational Facilities: Ponds to be converted into parks

LAHORE: The Punjab government has started paperwork of a plan to convert village ponds into public parks. This was stated by Punjab Minister for Local Bodies Muhammad Mansha Ullah Butt. He was addressing a meeting of steering committee of Khadim Aala Rural Sanitation and Solid Waste Management Programme on Thursday.

The minister said the step was aimed at providing recreational facilities to the rural population and ensure cleanliness and effective management of solid waste. "The government wants to remove ponds of dirty water and other such places at big villages of the province and create state-of-the-art recreational sites in place of them," he said. He added that a campaign would also be launched to create awareness among rural population for managing human and animal waste and to keep the streets and passages clean.
