HYDERABAD: An inquiry was conducted on Sunday by AIG Waliullah Dal into the alleged 'attack' of a police station in Umerkot by a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader. Dal recorded statements of police officers, personnel and the two arrested suspects.

"The police will not spare the people who assaulted the police station or police officers who were negligent in duty because they failed to stop them," Dal told the media at the Kunri police station in Umerkot.

PTI's Umerkot-based leader, Nawab Zaid Talpur, allegedly manhandled policemen and occupied the chair of the SHO in an incident on May 2. The police detained Zaid briefly but freed him reportedly after the intervention of a local influential person.

Later, an FIR was registered against Zaid, his son, Mir Hassan Talpur, and four others. Hassan and Yaqoob Solangi were arrested. The AIG said the statements of suspended Kunri DSP Sher Khan Rind and SHO Tassawar Hussain Jatt, besides other staff, have been recorded and a report will be submitted to the Sindh IG.
