BAHAWALPUR: A newly married couple has been arrested by Bahawalpur police for their alleged involvement in the murder of their fellow student a few days ago.

The victim, identified as Zeeshan who was working on a Chinese development project, was murdered in Uch Sharif. Police started investigations and solved the case with the help of cellphone records and circumstantial evidence.

Two years ago, investigators said, Zeeshan befriended a student of MPhil named Zahida on the social media and started chatting with her.

They started seeing each other and their relationship led to promises of marriage from both sides. However, the man later backed out of the wedding vows and ended the relationship.

Distraught over the rejection, Zahida befriended her senior at the university, identified as Waqas, who also wanted to marry her. She promised Waqas that she would marry him on the condition that he kill Zeeshan in return.

Police said the suspect complied with the condition and went to Uch Sharif to murder Zeeshan. Afterwards, Zahida married Waqas.

The couple was arrested on the third day of their marriage. A case has been registered against the suspects and further investigation is under way.
