Two youths drown in Hafizabad canal

Strong currents sweep away victims

HAFIZABAD:

Two young men drowned in a canal near Chatha Dad on Wednesday, plunging the local community into grief, rescue officials said.

According to Rescue 1122 sources, the victims were identified as Ahsan, son of Sikandar Hayat, and Muhammad Abdullah, both residents of Mohallah Sharifpura in Hafizabad. They had reportedly gone to the feeder canal to fetch water from a hand pump installed along the bank.

Eyewitnesses said that while at the site, the two youths entered the canal for a swim. However, due to the strong current and elevated water level, they lost control and were swept away. Upon receiving the alert, Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene and launched a search operation. Officials said efforts to recover the bodies were ongoing till the filing of this report.
