District councils dissolve under new LG system
.

Under the new local government system, district councils across the province have been abolished, and preparations are underway to distribute their assets equally among district tehsils.
The district council system will be practically phased out within the next 90 days. Before the formal dissolution of the Rawalpindi District Council, its assets - including vehicles, machinery, officers, and employees from Grade 1 to 16 - will be distributed among the district's six tehsils.
All sources of income of the district council will also be divided, with each source allocated to the respective tehsil in whose jurisdiction it falls.
Employees of the district council will be transferred to tehsil councils, preferably to the tehsils where they reside. Orders in this regard will be issued by the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi.
Following the announcement, employees have started efforts to secure transfers to preferred tehsils. The district council's sanitation system will also be divided among the respective councils.
