FAISALABAD: In a bid to improve the infrastructure of the metropolis, a comprehensive strategy is being evolved by the district administration. The plan includes development of master plan, reclassification of land, environment control, traffic system, removing encroachment, improving road infrastructure and beatification of the city.

This was said by newly-elected Faisalabad Mayor Muhammad Razaq Malik while speaking to The Express Tribune on Tuesday. “I will take along all the elective chairpersons and members of Faisalabad Municipal Corporation and with their inputs, a plan would be devised to resolve the problems of the city,” he said.

He added, “Being the third-largest city of the country and residential cum industrial area, we are confronted with huge problems like dilapidated civic infrastructure, lack of street lights, rampant encroachment, broken roads, inadequate and non- operative traffic signals, traffic hazards while the entire department of the FMC needs to be revamped,” the mayor revealed.

He maintained constant negligence by the government functionaries, who were running the affairs of FMC, failed to address the problems of the citizens in congested localities which are in a terrible condition. He said, “My priority would be to steer out these localities from these problems.”

Razaq Malik pointed out the preparations were underway for making plans to convert Faisalabad into a model city and overcome the hassles being faced by the people.
