Multi-talented individual: Sindhi actor, poet and journalist Parwano Bhatti dies

HYDERABAD: Sindhi writer, poet, actor, radio compére and journalist Parwano Bhatti passed away on Thursday at the age of 83.

After starting his career in journalism in 1947, Bhatti, who was born in Dadu district, began publishing his poetry in 1950. He first acted in a stage drama, titled Mujrim Kaun?, in 1953 at Mitha Ram Hostel.

In 1963, he was elected as the joint secretary of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat and, in 1968, his first fiction work was published. Bhatti portrayed the character of a feudal lord in the 1970 movie, Mehboob Mitha, which was directed by AQ Pirzada.

During the last few years of his life, he suffered from different ailments. He died during treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad. Bhatti was laid to rest in a graveyard in Tando Muhammad Khan. He is survived by three sons and four daughters.

The Sindhi Language Authority and Sindhi Adabi Sangat have expressed condolences over Bhatti’s death. In a statement, the authority’s chairperson, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Memon, said the deceased was a multi-talented person, whose contributions to literature will always be remembered.
