Campus status: BZU Lahore students end protest

In 2015 HEC declared Lahore campus illegal saying it did not fulfill the minimum requirements set by commission

LAHORE: Students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Lahore ended their sit-in on Wednesday after the varsity’s Multan vice chancellor ensured degrees would be awarded to those who have passed out from the Lahore campus.

BZU Multan Vice Chancellor Dr Tahir Amin went to the protest site on Wednesday afternoon and told the students and alumni that the latter would be awarded degrees as per the previous announcement of the government.

Since the protesters had blocked Canal Road, the assurance from the vice chancellor led to the opening of the thoroughfare and the easy flow of traffic.

The Lahore campus of BZU was established under public-private partnership in 2012. However, in 2015, HEC declared the BZU Lahore campus illegal, saying it did not fulfill the minimum requirements set by the commission. The decision led to several protests by students of the campus.
