KARACHI: Whether she rose to popularity because of her vocal prowess or good looks is debatable, but Momina Mustehsan has been all the rage following her Coke Studio debut this season.

While the Afreen Afreen singer has received a fair share of criticism for her work, it does not overpower the praises that have poured in for her. However, what is sure is that she is more than just a pretty face and become a household name in no time.

Twitter is a place where people get judged for voicing all kinds of opinions but still continue to use the platform.

A recent example is when a fan tweeted to another Coke Studio singer Ali Khan about how Mustehsan has gained so many followers since her appearance on the show.

He wrote, “Mustehsan’s followers were 4,000 but now they’ve reached 35,000 just in one season of Coke Studio. Khan’s followers were 628 and are still the same.”

However, the Janay Na Tu crooner was quick to respond and brag about his fan-following in 140 characters. “It’s not about how many followers you have, but it’s about who follows you, buddy. I have Pink Floyd’s touring member following me so do you think I care?” Indeed, former Pink Floyd member Scott Page does follow Khan.

Now we’re left wondering what Mustehsan must be thinking about this.

While Janay Na Tu might have been very extraordinary for the time when Khan first wrote it, for 2016 the melody seemed quite overdone. Yet, Jaffer Zaidi deserves praise for polishing it to the extent that it triggers the right emotions. It is a perfect arrangement and even the simple things, for instance, reliance on acoustic sounds, the basic string orchestra pieces or even the key of the song, add value to this ballad.

Siddiqui | 8 years ago | Reply Ali Khan is a far better singer than Momina, he unfortunately lacks in the eye candy department, that's not to say Momina is atrocious, but Ali is on another level altogether in terms of his pitch and vocals.
Acorn Guts | 8 years ago | Reply I prefer Ali's contribution over Momina's any day. Wish Ali all the best with his come back and hope to hear more from him in coming days.
