KARACHI: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) finally announced its official party structure at a press conference held at its secretariat, Pakistan House, on Monday.

Addressing the press conference, PSP information secretary Iftikhar Alam shared that the party was growing rapidly and several new members were joining it. He also pointed out that the party is now registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Intra-party elections were held on May 14, following which the members were elected unopposed to their respective positions, he explained. These officials will hold the posts for a four-year term, after which the intra-party elections will be held again, he added.

The PSP's top body will be known as the Central Executive Committee (CEC), with a chairperson leading it. Former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal is the first chairperson of this committee. Anis Kaimkhani has been appointed as president while Raza Haroon will be the secretary-general.

The posts of senior vice-chairperson have gone to Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Anis Khan. Waseem Aftab, Ashfaq Mangi and Iftikhar Randhawa have been appointed as vice-chairmen while Alam was appointed as information secretary. In addition to the CEC, the party will also have a 'National Council', which will assist the CEC and help form a national consensus on various issues. The president will also serve as the head of the National Council. Furthermore, the chairperson and the president will have the authority to call a session of the National Council when needed.

Alam added that each province will have divisional, district and union council committees, along with various wings for students, labour and lawyers. Since most of the leaders and position holders are from Karachi, Alam noted that some members from other provinces had also been chosen, such as Attaullah Kurd from Balochistan. Alam assured that representation from the rest of the country will increase in the near future.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Alam said that the PSP is currently not looking to participate in any elections and their focus is solely on solidifying the party. Kamal and other senior leaders will soon go on a tour of Punjab and other parts of Pakistan, he added.
