KARACHI:

K-Electric (KE) has signed a contract with Xian Electric Engineering Company China, through which KE would lay a new 132-kilovolt underground circuit from Queens Road Grid Station to Old Town Grid Station.

“The completion period of this project will be approximately one year and the new transmission line will help in loss reduction via smoother electricity supply,” said an official.

The project worth $3.3 million will pave the way for a more stable and reliable supply of electricity to three KE grid stations.

“This contract cements KE’s commitment and its investment plan whereby the power utility will invest in its generation, transmission and distribution network,” said a company spokesman. “This bodes well for customers through enhanced reliability and reduction in fault ratio for respective areas.”

Recently, KE has also signed a $400 million transmission investment package (TP-1,000) whereby the 1,000MVA project will add new grid stations, transmission lines, power transformers and upgrade Scada.
