A project under Gender Equity Programme of Aurat Foundation (AF) was launched at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Wednesday.
Under the project, the university will provide research opportunities to students from seven regions. Orientation workshops will be conducted over fifteen months to sensitise gender and pro-women legislation and research.
AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui termed the project as important in capacity building of faculty and non-faculty staff. He added that the university would soon introduce MPhil degree on gender and women studies.
AF representatives Naeema Mirza and Mahpara Shakil Ghouri also addressed the ceremony and gave an overview of the organisation’s role and achievements in enhancing respect and living conditions of women.
Earlier, AIOU Department of Gender and Women Studies Chairperson Dr Riffat Haque highlighted main features of the project and said that need based courses will soon be offered to expand academic network on gender studies.
