KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that collaboration between the Sindh government and private sector for the Thar coal mining and power project has translated into a real partnership for nation-building.

Under the project, a coal mine that will produce 3.8 million tons per annum and 660-megawatt coal-fired power plants are being established in Thar block-II. Private-sector stakeholders that are part of the project include Engro Corporation, the House of Habib, Habib Bank, Hub Power Company and China Machinery Engineering Corporation.

Presiding over a meeting with sponsors of the project at the Chief Minister House on Friday, Shah directed Senior Minister for Finance and Energy Syed Murad Ali Shah to organise a ceremony to mark financial close of the project at the Thar coal field by the end of January.

"I would invite Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, all chief ministers, federal ministers and diplomats to celebrate the occasion," he said and termed it a big achievement. Murad Ali Shah said financial close of the project had been achieved and only few formalities needed to be met before the launch of the project.
