On Sunday, lawmakers Mian Muhammad Farooq, Muhammad Nawaz Malik and Rana Sanaullah, Police officers Ehsan Tufail, Afzaal Kausar and Mushtaq Sukhera visited Rehman’s house and expressed their condolences to the grieved family.

They said Rehman’s bravery was an example for all policemen and that the Police Department and the entire nation were proud of him.

They said the government would look after his family and his widow would receive his salary till the age of retirement. They said his family would receive free medical facilities and education and one family member could get a job with the police.

Later while talking to the media, Sanaullah said the provincial government was following a comprehensive strategy to weed out terrorism. “Rehman’s sacrifice has strengthened our resolve to continue this fight.” He said it was clear that the nation would not tolerate terrorism in any form. Rehman’s colleagues and the comrades of every policeman martyred in the war against terrorism would continue to take the fight to its logical end, he said. “Every Pakistani owes Rehman gratitude and must take a stand against terrorism.”

Sanaullah said investigation against those involved in the encounter was underway and citizens would be apprised of the investigation details through the media.

He said the Police Department had been equipped with modern resources for tracking criminals and eliminating crime. He said the Counter Terrorism Department had been imparted rigorous training and the military and law enforcement agencies had been asked to take stringent measures. “We will see positive and encouraging results within the next six months.”  Sukhera said the Police Department would not rest till all traces of terrorist elements in the province were eliminated. He said no hindrance in the way of peace would be tolerated.

He requested citizens to cooperate with the police and report suspicious activity in their areas. “We cannot root out this menace without your help.”

MNA Farooq said the government would allocate Rs100 million for the development of Chak 209-RB in honour of Rehman’s sacrifice.

The officers also visited the DHQ Hospital and enquired about Constables Shoaib and Ghulam Mustafa who received bullet injuries in the encounter. They said they had been provided the best possible treatment.
