KARACHI: A lawyer moved the Sindh High Court seeking directions to the federal government to remove the government of Punjab and impose governor’s rule in the province.

Filing a constitutional petition on Wednesday, Sohail Hameed advocate submitted that the relations between the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are worsening day-by-day. They have reached the point of no return, he added.

The exchange of allegations and verbal duels between the leadership of both parties amply show the distrust and division which has lead to the breakdown of government machinery, he submitted. He asked the court to direct President Asif Ali Zardari to impose governor’s rule in Punjab for two months.

Any neutral PPP worker or leader could be appointed as Punjab governor, he submitted. The petitioner is seeking action under Article 232 and 234 of the Constitution of Pakistan. Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer was assassinated on Tuesday.
