Ya Qurban: Music competition held

The concept of such a competition was given by the famous poet, Abasin Yousufzai

PESHAWAR: Around 140 participants recited tappa at the music competition, Ya Qurban, held at Nishtar Hall in the city on Saturday. “The purpose of this event is to revive and preserve folk music besides bringing new talent to the fore,” said Additional Secretary for Sports, Culture and Tourism Muhammad Tariq. Organised by the Directorate of Culture, the competition was earlier held in Mardan and Abbottabad, while it is scheduled to be held in Bannu, Kohat and DI Khan. Hindko artists were also present on the occasion. The competition was held for two categories: Pashto and folk Hindko music. The first prize for Hindko music was of Rs100, 000, it was given to Shahid Ali Khan. In Pashto tappa contest, the first prize was awarded to Janan. The concept of such a competition was given by the famous poet, Abasin Yousufzai.
