Sindh govt announces public holiday on April 4

All government offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, local councils to remain closed

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday across the province on April 4, to mark the death anniversary of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was executed in 1979.

The Sindh government has declared a public holiday across the province on Saturday, April 4, in observance of the 47th death anniversary of “Quaid-e-Awam” Bhutto.

The notification stated that all government offices, as well as autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the provincial administration, will remain closed on Saturday, except for those providing essential services.

Bhutto, the only son of Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto.

Born on January 5, 1928, Bhutto pursued his education at prestigious institutions, including the University of California, Berkeley, and Oxford University. He entered politics as the youngest minister in Ayub Khan’s cabinet and later laid the foundation of the PPP in 1967.

He founded the Pakistan Peoples Party on November 30, 1967.

Bhutto's significant contributions to Pakistan notably include the drafting of the 1973 Constitution, which laid the foundation for a parliamentary, democratic, and federal system of governance. Bhutto’s vision also led to the initiation of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, a key milestone in ensuring the country's sovereignty and security.
