LAHORE: Security was tightened across the city on Friday in the wake of an attack on Pakistan Rangers in Karachi and threats of a terrorist attack targeting an “important building” on Gurumangat Road, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains said.

The CCPO and Operations DIG Haider Ashraf visited the road and reviewed security arrangements for several buildings, including offices of some media organisations. He asked the security guards there to remain alert.

Security at city’s entrances and exits, too, was also beefed up.

Patrolling of several city roads and intersections was also enhanced.

Ashraf said that Lahore police were doing their best to protect lives and property of citizens. He urged citizens to cooperate with police in maintaining law and order. “Citizens are requested to inform the police if they detect a suspicious person or activity around them. I assure timely action by the police,” the DIG said.

The DIG praised Rangers officials who had lost their lives in the line of duty in Karachi. He also praised Pakistan Army officers for rendering numerous sacrifices in the Operation Zarb-i-Azb against terrorists.

He said the country had attained various successes in the operation. He said the Police Department was working on timely achievement of all targets set for it by the government.

Separately, two people were injured in a cracker attack at the office of a news organisation in Faisalabad.
