FAISALABAD: A eunuch was arrested on Sunday for castrating a man without his consent.

Nishatabad police said Ghulam Abbas, a resident of Marzi Pura, was fond of dancing and had joined Guru Nargis Mian’s troupe to learn how to dance at parties.

Police said that Abbas had told them that Mian had said that they would not teach him how to dance until he got castrated. Abbas promised the guru that he would get castrated after the dance lessons were complete.

Police said that Mian taught Abbas how to dance and then insisted that he honour his promise. Abbas told police that he refused to get castrated but Mian and an accomplice Iqbal alias Bala deceived him into placing his thumb impression on a document that ensured secrecy. Abbas told police that he was illiterate and was not aware of the contents of the stamp paper.

A few months ago, Mian, Iqbal and a doctor forcibly administered anaesthesia to Abbas and castrated him, police said.

They later confined him to a room and threatened him with dire consequences if he told anyone about the surgery. Abbas said that he remained in the room for three months but escaped one day when the guru was not home.

He said that he ran home to his parents and told them about his ordeal. They accompanied him to the Nishatabad police where they registered a case against Mian.

Abbas told the police that Mian had been running a human-trafficking gang where the eunuch would ‘trap’ men, castrate them and then sell them to human traffickers.

Police said they had arrested Mian and were looking for Iqbal and the doctor who had performed the surgery. They said they were interrogating Mian and would soon get to the bottom of the matter.
