KARACHI:

A total of 1,039 doctors from grade 17 to grade 20 have been promoted, announced health minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Monday.

He said that 616 doctors have been promoted  from grade 17 to grade 18, 344 doctors from grade 18 to grade 19 while 79 doctors from 19 to grade 20. The promotion was decided on the basis of merit to eliminate corruption, he claimed.

A group of corrupt officials who were found selling medicines from government hospitals in Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Ghotki have been nabbed and their cases registered with the police, he added. Dahar assured that all the officials will have to go through accountability process and no political pressure will be tolerated.

Government hospitals are being reformed and it is being ensured that medicines are accessible for all the patients, he said. "Corruption in procurement of medicines will be eradicated," Dahar said. "A transparent process is being implemented."
