Nawaz, Modi meeting an important step forward: Joe Biden

US vice president strongly encourages both sides to build on latest strategic avenue for peace

WASHINGTON: United States Vice President Joe Biden has termed the recent meeting of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with his Indian counterpart in Ufa, Russia, an important step forward towards peaceful dialogue process.

According to Radio Pakistan, the US vice president said his country encourages Pakistan and India to build on this strategic avenue for peace.

“The US strongly encourages both sides to build on this strategic avenue for peace,” Biden said while addressing a function in Washington.

Further, the American vice president also hoped the meeting would lead to more such dialogues in future.

Last week, the US and the United Nations had welcomed Nawaz-Modi meeting and the resumption of stalled dialogue between Pakistan and India.

“I wanted to welcome the meeting that took place earlier today between Prime Ministers Modi and Nawaz,” US State Department deputy spokesperson Mark C Toner had told reporters at his daily news briefing in Washington DC.
