KARACHI: Operations were suspended for two hours when a fire broke out in the emergency ward of one of the city’s busiest hospitals, the Civil Hospital, Karachi, on Sunday. The spokesperson of the fire department said that they received distress calls from the hospital at around 2:30pm. “We immediately dispatched a fire tender and rescue vehicles to douse the fire,” he said, adding that it took an hour to extinguish the fire. He said the fire started from the electric board and no injuries were reported, adding that it was just an accident and the police have not registered a case. The duty officer at the hospital said that emergency operations were suspended for some time and the building was evacuated. “The emergency operations resumed soon after the fire was doused,” he added.
