KARACHI:

As the excitement of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 builds, the city is preparing to host a significant chunk of the tournament under extraordinary conditions — tight security, closed gates, and strict adherence to austerity measures. Karachi's iconic National Stadium will stage 22 matches starting April 8, but fans will have to cheer from afar.

In line with the government's national austerity policy, no spectators will be allowed inside the stadium. A high-level meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi finalised comprehensive arrangements on Wednesday, emphasising foolproof security for players and officials. However, accredited print and electronic media, along with relevant officials, will be permitted to perform their duties.

Authorities have put contingency plans in place to tackle emergencies, including on-site presence of fire brigade services and health department units.

Out of the 22 matches in Karachi, six double-headers will kick off at 2:30pm, while 10 evening matches are scheduled for 7pm. The opening clash on April 8 will see Hyderabad Kingsmen take on Peshawar Zalmi in a night fixture. The following day features a double-header: Lahore Qalandars versus Islamabad United, followed by Karachi Kings facing Peshawar Zalmi. Karachi's leg of the tournament will conclude on April 28.
