TTP deny involvement in Sabeen Mahmud’s murder
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the rights activist’s murder

The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed on Sunday they are not involved in the brutal murder of rights activist Sabeen Mahmud.
“We categorically deny involvement in the murder of Sabeen Mahmud,” TTP spokesperson Mohammad Khorasani said.

Gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead the director of the popular arts center, T2F, shortly after she had hosted a seminar on the troubled region of Balochistan at her cafe.

The session, ‘Unsilencing Balochistan (Take 2)’, featured the chairperson of Voice for Missing Baloch Persons (VBMP), Mama Qadeer. This was the same session which was due to be held at LUMS a few weeks ago, but was cancelled at the last minute.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for Sabeen’s murder. However, sources say the slain activist has been receiving threats.

The police registered a case against unidentified persons under terrorism charges on behalf of Sabeen’s mother, who was critically wounded in the attack and is admitted in hospital.
Further, Khorasani alleged that “investigation by the TTP’s intelligence wing suggests government agencies are behind the killing of Sabeen Mahmud.”

On Saturday, while condemning the attack, the military said intelligence agencies would provide all assistance in the investigation of the murder.
“Intelligence agencies have been tasked to render all possible assistance to investigating agencies for the apprehension of perpetrators and bring them to justice,” DG ISPR Maj-Gen Asim Bajwa said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the TTP spokesperson claimed responsibility for the killing of two policemen in Karachi.
“The TTP’s special unit targeted two police men at the Site Area of Karachi,” Khorasani said in a statement emailed to the media.
