LAHORE:

A writ petition was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Saturday, challenging the non-party local government elections being held in cantonments.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Lahore Cantonment president Awais Younas filed the petition, stating that the Election Commission of Pakistan had announced the schedule for local elections in 42 cantonment areas of the country on the direction of the Supreme Court.

“The local elections are being held in cantonments on April 25 a non-party basis in violation of Article 17 of the Constitution and an order passed by the LHC in 2013,” he said.
