The contest takes place every year in February in association with the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous festival.
The Takhini Hotel Pools in Whitehorse, Yukon province serves as the perfect venue for the contest with its hot spring pools and temperatures as low as -30C, which can freeze wet hair in 60 seconds.
Participants can jump in to the springs and then model their hair in different styles in ten to thirty minutes.

To complete participation and stand a chance to win the $150 prize, they have to then post pictures and videos of their frozen hair onto the contest’s Facebook page. The page's admin then decides the best picture.
Miléna Georgeault and her winning teammates posted a video on Facebook. Georgeault says she was surprised to see that it got more than 18,000 views.

Another participant, Umbrich said Yukon’s climate creates the right combination of steam coming off the water and cold temperatures to freeze hair nicely.
