The anti-terrorism court (ATC) II extended on Tuesday the judicial remand of two suspects in a factory manager's killing case and ordered the police to submit a final challan of the case by the next hearing on March 4.
The suspects, Abdur Rahim and Ali Hasan, were arrested by the police during the last week of January after a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage of the killing was aired by news channels.
According to the prosecution, Rahim, claiming to be a Sunni Tehrik worker, approached Islam Designer manager Saleemuddin on January 7 and demanded extortion from him. He was accompanied by Hasan and another absconding accomplice, Anwar, who is believed to be their ring leader.
Rahim fired multiple shots at Saleemuddin when he asked him to come back later as the factory owner was not there.
Rahim was arrested on January 26 after his mother, Rabia Bibi, identified him through the video and informed the police. Two days later, Hasan was also arrested. The third suspect is still at large.
The police officer investigating the case told the court that the key suspect had confessed to the crime while recording his statement before a judicial magistrate of District Central.
Also, a medical report of the suspect suggested that he was not a juvenile and his age was between 18 and 19 years, he said.
The case of the killing was registered under sections 384, 385, 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code read with the section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
