CCTV footage of the water tanker that fled after hitting and killing seven-year-old Arsalan in Orangi Town has surfaced.
Reportedly, a speeding water tanker struck and killed the child on late Friday night near Khalil Market. After the incident, enraged locals staged a protest, setting tyres on fire, placing barricades, and blocking traffic. The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the tanker driver.
The surfaced CCTV footage clearly shows the tanker speeding away right after the accident. A child and a man can be seen running behind the tanker, while the deceased's companion is seen crying and pointing in the direction of the fleeing vehicle.
Police officials reported that the search for the absconding driver is underway.
Truck wheels crush woman
A woman was killed after being run over by a truck near Peerabad Banaras. The police arrested the driver and took the truck into custody. The deceased's body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities, where she was identified as 35-year-old Shehnaz.
According to SHO Peerabad, Anees-ur-Rehman, Shehnaz was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle with a close relative. The incident occurred at Banaras Bacha Khan Chowk, where the motorcycle lost balance, causing her to fall backward onto the road. A container-loaded truck passing nearby ran over her with its rear wheels, leading to her death.
The police arrested the driver, Ali Hamza, and impounded the 10-wheeler truck bearing number P-3732. The deceased was a mother of five children and a resident of Kawari Colony, Manghopir. Her husband works in Saudi Arabia.
After completing legal formalities, the police handed over the body to the family. Legal action is underway against the arrested driver.
Meanwhile, two more people were killed and one youth was seriously injured in separate traffic accidents across the city on Saturday.
A young motorcyclist was killed and another injured in a traffic accident near Al-Khidmat Hospital in Orangi Town Sector five. Rescue officials identified the deceased as 22-year-old Ejaz, while 16-year-old Owais is receiving medical treatment.
In another incident on Hawksbay Road near a famous restaurant, 35-year-old motorcyclist Irfan killed in a traffic accident. His body was transported to Civil Hospital via an Edhi ambulance. Rescue officials said the accident was caused by a collision with an unidentified vehicle, and police are investigating further.
