Caretaker appointment: Preliminary hearing tomorrow
Iqbal’s appointment was in violation of the constitution
LAHORE:
Lahore High Court will hold a preliminary hearing on Friday (tomorrow) on a petition challenging Punjab Assembly speaker Rana Iqbal’s appointment as acting governor. The petitioner, Munir Ahmad, had submitted on Tuesday that Iqbal’s appointment was in violation of the constitution and requested the court that he be removed from the office and directions be issued to the federal government for the appointment of a new governor. He quoted Articles 101-104 and stated that a caretaker appointment could not be made to the office in a situation when it was permanently vacant.
