Annual conference: ‘Govt supports the livestock sector’

LAHORE: Food Security Minister Sikandar Hayat Bosan said on Tuesday that the livestock sector was inherently linked to rural development.  He was addressing a conference at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Bosan said the livestock sector had played a pivotal role in the promotion of rural food security and poverty alleviation. He said the government had always supported the sector.  Bosan said the government had decided to extend a Rs5,000 subsidy per acre to paddy farmers. He said a committee had been constituted following a directive from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to suggest proposals to reduce commodity prices. The conference was organised by the Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) and the Pakistan Agriculture Scientists’ Forum (PAS).
