Power theft: Mepco team cuts off illegal connection

BAHAWALPUR:

A team of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) cut off an illegal electricity connection on Thursday in Khairpur Tamewali.

Ghulam Haider, a resident of Jhok Haji village, had not paid the Rs600,000 electricity bill for his tubewell. After his electricity connection was severed, he directly connected the wires and restarted the tube-well.

The Mepco team, consisting of SDO Nazar Hussain Bhatti, Meter Inspector Abdul Ghaffar, Line Superintendent Muhammad Aslam and Allah Wasaya, reached the area after they were informed by neighbours.

They disconnected the electricity supply. A case has also been registered against Ghulam Haider.

The Multan Electric Power Company said it would continue its crackdown against power thieves.

The company has constituted special teams to detect power theft cases in Bahawalpur.
