Modern mechanism: Looking to juice up AJK’s agriculture sector

Barren land’s development to bring prosperity and strengthen economy.

In order to give an impetus to the sector in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), a mechanism is being introduced for the promotion and cultivation of various precious agricultural products like olive oil and pomegranate.


The plan has been made with special focus on expansion of the sector according to the needs of modern age in AJK, official sources said.

Elaborating the salient features of the proposed plan for agricultural development, funds have been placed in the 2014-15 budget to achieve the task. According to sources, nurseries of precious vegetables and fruits are being established in various parts with special focus for the uplift and expansion of modern agricultural produces in the area.

The sources continued that the government has planned to develop barren land for cultivation. This plan will not only help to promote the agriculture sector but would also strengthen the economic progress and prosperity in the region.

They added that fair-price shops were also being set up for the supply of seed and other related agricultural items across AJK. Vegetable markets at district and tehsil level were also being established for the facility of the farmers with aims to make them more prosperous and to ensure that they play their active role for the speedy progress of the sector.
