BANNU: Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) Director General (DG) Arshad Khan has been removed from his position for failing to provide adequate facilities to internally displaced persons (IDPs), Express News reported on Monday.

The DG has been removed from his post in light of numerous complaints from IDPs regarding inadequate facilities and poor living conditions in the camps set up for them. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the IDPs in Bannu today and inspected the camps and facilities being provided to them, which reportedly seemed inadequate and incomplete.

In light of these complaints, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor decided to remove the DG from his post.

Earlier, Khan said that the FDMA has been actively supporting the IDPs from the very outset and Rs400 million were distributed among 30,000 displaced families.

He further added that medicines have been provided to hospitals in Bannu with the support of provincial government and the procedure of cash disbursement among the displaced people has been made easy as they can collect the amount from any zone outlet by showing their national identity cards.

Khan also said that the IDPs were being provided with mobile phone SIMs to get cash assistance in a transparent and orderly manner.

Furthermore, he said that FDMA has so far registered 29,516 IDPs of North Waziristan Agency living in Peshawar and other northern districts the province.

“The World Food Programme has so far distributed a total of 3,726 metric tonnes of food assistance among the IDPs,” he added.

FDMA is a federally administered area and falls under jurisdiction of Governor, appointed by Federal Govt.

There is clear link in it.

PTI Government and leadership has been asking Federal Govt to take leadership of the emergency response of IDP from FATA which is Federal responsibility.
