FAISALABAD:

A man who had gone missing in February this year was found murdered in the courtyard of his uncle’s house this week.

His uncle confessed to the murder saying that he had killed his nephew for wanting to marry his daughter.

Chaudhry Maqsood Ahmad, a resident of Chak 358-JB, Dallam, told media persons on Saturday that his son Sakhi Sarwar, 22, worked as a security guard in Islamabad. He went to visit his aunt in Haroonabad in February and did not return.

He said he filed a complaint with the Islamabad Secretariat police. The police widened the scope of the investigation and asked several relatives, including Sarwar’s aunt, to join the investigation.

Ahmad said police traced Sarwar’s last location through his cell phone records and took Irshad Ahmad, the aunt’s husband, into custody.

Police said that initial interrogation revealed that Irshad Ahmad had killed Sarwar and buried his body in the courtyard. Irshad Ahmad told police that he had axed Sarwar to death.

Ahmad said that Sarwar had wanted to marry his aunt’s daughter Robina. “We asked Irshad Ahmad for his daughter’s hand in marriage for our son but he refused,” he said.

Naveed Akram, one of Sarwar’s relatives, said that Robina had asked Sarwar to meet her at her house. He said when Sarwar went there Irshad Ahmad overpowered him and killed him with an axe. He later buried his body in his courtyard.

Islamabad Secretariat police said that Irshad Ahmad led them to the location where he had buried Sarwar. The body was exhumed and sent for an autopsy.

The police handed the body over to Sarwar’s family on Saturday.

Touching scenes of mourning were witnessed when Sarwar’s body arrived at his native village, Chak 358-JB. His body was buried in the main graveyard in the area after funeral prayers.

Islamabad Secretariat police said that Irshad Ahmad had been found guilty. They said his case has been sent to the court for prosecution.
